A $55 Million Birthday Present-- No Big Deal, Right?

To most of us, a $55 million gift is more than just a little over the top.  But for hip-hop star Soulja Boy, it's just another birthday. According to an article by Alison Schwartz for People magazine, the recording artist recently put down the astounding amount of cash on a brand new private jet as a birthday present to himself.

One might assume the $55 million is the going rate for a private jet.  But sources reveal that the Gulfstream G5 jet itself only cost around $35 million.  What was the remainder of the money spent on?  According to Schwartz, Soulja Boy dropped an additional $20 million on custom items such as Italian leather seats and flat screen TVs.

The rapper not only filled the plane with elaborate corporate gifts, including four liquor bars that are undoubtedly filled with custom barware, but also shelled out an impressive amount of cash to have his logo imprinted on its exterior.  The logo, which the rap artist has touted before on everything from promotional t-shirts to hats, will let everyone know exactly whose jet is flying overhead.

All this talk of Soulja Boy's logo makes you wonder how it would look on other promotional products.  My guess is that the rapper will soon be imprinting his name and logo onto custom iPod covers.  I'd for sure buy one!  Happy Birthday, Soulja Boy!

I must say, for someone who performs "Crank Dat" he does have excellent taste - in airplanes and beats.
